What is Calisthenics?

The word calisthenics comes from the Greek words ‘kallos’ for beauty and ‘thenos’ for strength. Indeed, the components of the sport aim at achieving those physical attributes.

Calisthenics as we know it today, involves a team of dancers learning routines choreographed to music – each of about three minutes duration – and presenting those routines at competitions. Participants learn approximately six routines concurrently throughout a year and this is where the diversity of the sport is seen. Children and adults of all ages thrive on the variety and challenges offered in the many facets of Calisthenics.

Calisthenics is performed in all states and territories of mainland Australia. Sylvania Calisthenics is proud to be the first club established in New South Wales.
